Purpose of the Position
To optimize the utilization of equipment and drivers by dispatching tractor-trailer combinations to deliver time-sensitive freight shipments of our customers and finding/securing loads from areas that will efficiently utilize drivers.  Considering, but not limited to hours of service, safety, fuel consumption, etc. 
Major Responsibilities
  1. Coordinating and dispatching front haul and backhaul and loads on a daily basis. 
  2. React quickly and logically in prioritizing, coordinating and making changes to driving assignments in support of customer service delivery objectives in a fast paced environment.
  3. Utilizes knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including hours of service, drug/alcohol testing and regulations pertaining to the safe operation of CMV’s.
  4. Utilizes and maintains contact lists, Internet subscriptions, DAC Services, etc. to obtain loads from areas that we need loads from.
  5. Uses customer-oriented telephone etiquette to get information.  Greets callers, establishes rapport and projects professional tone.
  6. Treats Customers, Employees, etc. with courtesy and respect.
  7. Communication with Dispatchers, Terminal Managers etc. with any problems that our drivers are incurring and resolving those problems based on Company policies and sound problem resolution skills.
  8. Timely filling-out and turning-in necessary paperwork for billing and payroll.
  9. Schedule delivery appointments.
  10. Expand job responsibilities, suggests improvements, and collaborates with others to generate ideas and improve processes.
  11. Load planning, inputting orders, dispatching loads, and completing loads in TMW software system.  Maintain backhaul rate book easily understood by any dispatcher or manager.
  12. Corrects information errors through Total Mail system
  13. Accepting or declining loads through EDI.
  14. Support lead dispatcher.

  2. Handles many on-going complex problems effectively.  Separates key issues and generates multiple solutions.
  3. Easily analyzes and prioritizes information, distilling it to the critical issues and drawing accurate conclusions.
  4. Handles work of diverse scope and complexity in a fast paced, stressful environment.
  5. Excellent telephone skills and etiquette.
  6. Experience with DOT regulations.
  7. Full understanding of tractor-trailer weight limitations and loading techniques.
  8. Geographic knowledge of the Midwest.
  9. Knowledge of Trucking Management System TMW Systems preferred.
  10. Must exhibit knowledge in use of various computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows, PC Miler, DAT Partners, Etc.
  11. Several years experience in trucking industry
  12. No DUI or reckless driving convictions, no positive controlled substance tests or felony convictions.
  13. Must be able to pass pre-employment controlled substance test (negative test result).
  14. Must exhibit professionalism in appearance and performance, no tank tops, cutoffs or torn clothing.
Additional Information
All employees are required to go through various training seminars, programs and classes to continually improve on their skills (on-going education).
All employees are subject to our drug and alcohol program which includes random, reasonable suspicion, follow-up, return to work and post accident testing.
All employees are required to attend the semi-annual safety meetings usually held in April/May and November/December.
